P.UCKEL'S STONEWARE - Crock

by Lorae R.
(Minnesota USA)

I have a crock I received from my Mother. It is stamped "P.UCKEL'S STONEWARE"in cobalt blue. It is in 2 lines. The bottom word -STONEWARE- goes up like this ^, with the E & W being the highest. It also has a 5 in cobalt blue. I think it's quite old, but can't find any info on it. Can you help? Thanks so much!! Lorae R. Minnesota USA

Ruckel’s Pottery NEW
by: Dave McCarthy

I see it has been years since the previous posts on this site, but after reading all of them I felt compelled to set the record straight. Although I lived more than a few blocks away, I too grew up in White Hall, IL and my father worked at Ruckel’s as a young man. As the anonymous posts say, it is Ruckel’s and definitely not P. Uckels. I am not sure what Lorae from MN is seeing. The only thing I can imagine is that the pottery she has seen is not in ideal shape and the R looks like a P. I am looking at my Ruckels jug right now and it has minimal wear and is very clearly Ruckel’s Stoneware.
